Mothers from Vrygrond and surrounding areas were guests at a Mother’s Day event organised for them by the Where Rainbows Meet organisation to thank them for the work they put in for their families. “Mothers are the salt of the earth. Without them everything has no taste.” These were the words of Mymoena Scholtz, director of the Where Rainbows Meet training and development foundation to the mothers she addressed at a Mother’s Day event last Friday. The non-profit organisation in Vrygrond organised the event for mothers from the area to thank them for the hard work they put in despite having challenges. The function room was packed to capacity with mothers and the tables were set with different things for them to eat.
“Mothers are special. Sometimes we don’t see the value in ourselves. We are doctors, nurses, psychologists, counsellors. We are the first doctors as we feel the temperatures of our children when they come to us complaining about something. We give guidance, we protect and that is an incredible job. “Sometimes mothers are single parents and they have to play the role of being a mother and being a father. That is very difficult, but you have held on,” said Scholtz.
Scholtz added that mothers did everything without complaining.
“We listen to everything. We love without holding back. When the food is not good they complaint to you, when there is something not going well, they complain to you, but who do we complain to? “So this day is to thank you for what you continue to do for your families. We want you to see the value in yourselves. We are here celebrating you because you do amazing things. You go through so many challenges but you never abandon your children. Yes, you might have weaknesses here and there, but the strength that you have is amazing. We just want to say thank you to all the hard-working mothers,” she says.
One of the mothers attending the event, Ida Manakaza (74), said she was really grateful to the foundation for remembering them. “We want to say thank you to everyone who put in the hard work for us to feel ¬special. “We live in difficult times but we are thankful that God is still watching over us and protecting us. We should not forget that. There are a lot of challenges and struggles with our children not working. They wish they could do something for us on Mother’s Day but they don’t have the means since they don’t work. We are grateful for what the foundation has done for us. We feel really special,” she said.
Another mother who also attended, Janet Stevens, thanked the foundation for always being there for them. “Thank you so much for helping us as a foundation. What you have done for us today makes us feels special. We know we can always come here for help. It is because of the work that you do that makes us look like we are good mothers. Thank you for putting this event together for us,” said Stevens.
