What is COVID-19?

On 31 December 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported a cluster of pneumonia cases in Wuhan City, China. ‘Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2’ (SARS-CoV-2) was confirmed as the causative agent of what we now know as ‘Coronavirus Disease 2019’ (COVID-19). Since then, the virus has spread to more than 100 countries, including South Africa.

how do we help?

As of 27th March 2020 the official lock down was in full effect, closing all business's and organizations for the next 21 days. Leaving most individuals destitute as they rely on the services of organizations. We could not sit around and watch our people starve, which leads to looting stores and robbing people for their next meal. As of Monday the 29th of March 2020, Where Rainbows Meet has reopened its doors as an "Essential Service Organization" allowing us to continue with our nutritional feeding program for anyone in need of a meal.

Our aim is not only to ensure we provide meals for children and adults alike, but to ensure we stop the curve of the virus increasing and spreading in our communities by educating the public, practicing social distancing, sanitizing and offering services that were offered by the organizations that are now closed during this lock down period.

We are currently covering feeding or the entire Vrygrond community, also the Steenberg, Lavender Hill, Riemvasmaak, Overcome Heights, Hillview and many other kitchens we support with resources to make food in their communities. The need and demand is growing daily and we have now been supporting people in the 1000's daily.

how can you help?

Your support is essential, without every individual who has been supporting our COVID-19 relief program thus far we couldn't have fed all the people we have reached thus far. As expressed above the need is great and people are really in dire need for food and support.

Every little bit counts, we accept monetary and in kind donations towards our COVID-19 relief fund to continue with the program throughout the remainder of the lock down and beyond. We have also established a COVID-19 relief backabuddy donation page. https://www.backabuddy.co.za/champion/project/spread-the-word-not-the-virus
